The House: A Historic Landmark in Malinska
Long before Malinska became the charming seaside getaway it is today, The House stood as a symbol of hospitality and tradition. Built in 1930, it holds the title of the oldest hotel in Malinska, welcoming travelers and locals alike for nearly a century.
A Glimpse into Malinska’s Past
Malinska’s history is deeply tied to its role as a coastal retreat. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the town was known for its lumber trade, with wood from the island of Krk being exported across Europe. However, as tourism began to flourish along the Adriatic, Malinska transformed from an industrial hub into a beloved seaside escape.
By the time The House opened as a hotel in 1930, Malinska had become a destination for wealthy visitors from Rijeka and beyond. It was one of the first accommodations catering to early tourists, offering them a place to stay while they enjoyed the island’s pristine beaches and fresh sea air.
Surviving War & Change
During World War II, Krk Island—like much of Croatia—was occupied by Italian and later German forces. Malinska, though small, saw its share of wartime struggles. The House remained standing through the war, serving as a shelter and gathering place for locals during uncertain times.
In the decades that followed, Malinska continued to evolve. By the 1960s and 70s, the town became a popular summer resort, attracting visitors from all over Yugoslavia. The hotel adapted to the changing times, welcoming a new wave of travelers seeking relaxation by the Adriatic.
A New Chapter: The House Today
Now, nearly a century after its doors first opened, the historic building has been transformed into The House Malinska—a modern yet timeless retreat that honors its past while offering a stylish, comfortable stay for today’s travelers. While the space has been reimagined, the soul of the original hotel remains—welcoming guests to experience a piece of Malinska’s history in a truly special setting.
Whether you’re visiting for a relaxing beach getaway, an island adventure, or simply to soak in the charm of Krk, staying at The House Malinska is more than just a stay—it’s a connection to nearly 100 years of hospitality and tradition.
